Cartograph is a journaling Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) about map making, exploration, worldbuilding and resource management.

The heart of this game revolves around the creation of a map, which you will fill out with detail as you play. You will take on the role of a budding cartographer, arriving at a new land with a blank map book and a desire to explore.

By the end of the game, you'll have created a unique map filled with interesting locations and history that you can use in other fantasy role playing games like D&D.

This product is a hardcover, 90 page book, and includes the digital PDF of the game.

Released in April 2024.

What is Cartograph?

Cartograph is a solo / multiplayer map-making RPG about journaling, exploration, worldbuilding, and resource management.

The core rules are easy to learn, and facilitate the creation of a world map through a variety of prompts and tables. By the end of a game, you will have produced a map of an unknown world, complete with a journal that details those places.

This is a great artefact to use as a homebrew setting for your DnD 5e campaign, or other fantasy systems.

  • This product listing is for The Altas Edition of Cartograph, which expands upon the original game in a plethora of ways:

    • Twice as many prompt sets.
    • A collection of inspiring tables to generate names, people, commodities, and places.
    • A refined and revised core ruleset for streamlined play.
    • An in-depth example play.
    • Rules for multiplayer, non-authoring, and peaceful modes.
    • over double the content of the original game!

The Atlas Edition is considered the complete edition of the game, so if you previously owned Cartograph and loved it, Atlas Edition is for you.

Neat little one player

So this is a neat little game for one. Don't judge me AI haters but I played with chatgpt for that social aspect XD (AI is a tool that will be misused but capitalism is the REAL problem) Chat gpt played an NPC who just journaled and shared his opinion on my actions but didn't TAKE any actions.

So I have never done solo RPG before, for me the appeal IS the social aspect but people are harder to organise and stuff so I thought I would give it a go because I do love TTRPGs and I don't have a group, and I also love PC games with a role playing element and of course map making.

Very cute concept and I did misunderstand the rules and accidentally cheat my way to victory by misunderstanding the victory conditions but I also wanted to finish in one sitting so that was a bit necessary.

Twas a fun little game, a little too easy but I of course cheated accidentally so if I play again I would up the difficulty by not cheating of course.

At first I was like, well you don't NEED someone else's rules to play a game like this, you can just make it up yourself. But then I thought about it and not everyone is a creative person who regularly makes their own games and this is a really accessible way to get into writing a cute little story or making a cute little map and having a few little mechanics to introduce the random aspect of discovery that makes it more fun to play with another person, or a computer moderator. And like honestly, if I had made it up I wouldn't have thought of the cute little dice on the map thing so I think it's that toxic trait of like "I could do this" even though I can't be bothered to do it.

So when I thought about it that way I was like, no I'm sold! Its a cute game and if you like solo TTRPGs which I don't know how many people do, but I think this is a good one (having no frame of reference).

I gave it four instead of five because of just hating to give five stars in general unless I'm super wowed, so I hope I don't skew the average too much.

Cartograph

Cartograph is well written and layed out in a way that is easy to read and find exactly what your looking for. Whether as stand alone rpg or as a world building tool. I have been very impressed with this and was happy to have discovered it for my collection.
